Polish the ends of fiber connectors to reduce connection loss
May 08, 2018

A fiber pigtail is a half-patch-like connector used to connect an optical fiber to a fiber coupler. It includes a jumper connector and a piece of fiber.

After the cable is laid, it must be connected through optical fiber to form a complete optical fiber transmission link. A fiber optic link has multiple connection points, including direct connection points for optical fibers, connector terminations, and connector interconnections. Therefore, fiber connections are also connected and terminated in two forms.

Fiber termination is the process of connecting a fiber connector to one fiber and polishing it. Fiber termination requires connector splicing and polishing of the end of the fiber optic connector to reduce connection losses. Fiber termination is mainly used to make fiber jumpers and fiber pigtails.

A fiber pigtail is a half-jumper-like connector used to connect an optical fiber to a fiber coupler. It includes a jumper connector and a piece of fiber.

The fiber pigtail is relatively slender, and the slope of the pigtail cross section is 8°. It is not resistant to high temperatures and will peel off when it exceeds 100°C. [2]

It should be noted that fiber pigtails and jumpers are not a concept. Only one end of the fiber pigtail is an active joint, and both ends of the jumper are active joints. There are many interfaces, and different interfaces require different couplers. The jumper is divided into two parts. Can also be used as tail fiber.
