The role of wavelength division multiplexers is simply to synthesize or separate different wavelengths. Two common types of WDM:

1, melt pull cone type: using a taper machine (including computer monitoring system) for high-temperature melting cones after two optical fiber to achieve 1310nm and 1550nm wavelength division multiplexing purposes.

2. Filter chip type: After the SMD packaging, the lens and the filter are used to achieve the purpose of wavelength division multiplexing.

The Wavelength Division Multiplexer divides coarse wavelength division multiplexer (CWDM) and dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM):

CWDM: Enables multiple wavelengths to be transmitted over the same fiber.

DWDM: This technology utilizes the bandwidth and low-loss characteristics of single-mode fibers, and uses multiple wavelengths as carriers, allowing each carrier channel to be transmitted simultaneously within the fiber. Compared with a general-purpose single-channel system, DWDM not only greatly improves the network. The communication capacity of the system makes full use of the bandwidth of the optical fiber, and it has many advantages such as simple expansion and reliable performance, and the prospect is very bright.

The main difference between CWDM and DWDM.

1. The spacing of CWDM carrier channels is relatively wide. Therefore, only 18 wavelengths of light waves can be multiplexed on the same fiber. The difference between "coarse" and "dense" titles arises from this;

2. CWDM modulated lasers use uncooled lasers while DWDM uses cooled lasers. The cooling laser is temperature tuned and the uncooled laser is electronically tuned. Due to the very uneven temperature distribution over a wide wavelength range, temperature tuning is difficult and costly to implement. CWDM avoids this difficulty and therefore significantly reduces costs. The entire CWDM system costs only 30% of DWDM.

3. CWDM features low cost, low power consumption, and small size.
