The Benefits Of DWDM
Jan 16, 2019

1. The evolution of the electrical network to the optical network

DWDM technology lays the foundation for the evolution of the grid path to the optical network. Traditional Ethernet networking cannot perform multiplexing, switching, or routing directly at the optical layer. In other actions, the network node needs to use an optoelectronic conversion device to convert the optical signal into an electrical signal and then convert the electrical signal back to the optical signal. As a result, the overall transmission rate is limited by the use of the photoelectric conversion device, and the optical fiber cannot be used. The potential for unlimited bandwidth is well developed.

The optical network with DWDM as the mechanism can directly solve the above problems in the operation of the optical layer, thus overcoming the traditional transmission bottleneck and bringing the concept of "Virtual fibre", the most efficient use of existing optical fibers.

2. Network diversified services

DWDM has nothing to do with Bite Rate and Protocols, which means that it can provide a transport network that is completely independent of the service form. For example, a DWDM network that is completely transparent to the transmission rate and protocol. ATM, IP, SDH and other signals are interfaced to provide diverse services for the network.

3. Reduce costs and improve service quality

Since the assignment or scheduling of signals at the optical layer is simpler and more efficient than the conventional bandwidth scheduling at the electrical layer, the cost can be reduced. In addition, when the cable is cut or the optical signal is faulty on the network, the signal protection switching or the network routing recovery action can be performed in the optical layer, and the switching time is compared with the traditional operation of replying in the electrical layer. Shorter, increasing the availability of the network and improving service quality.
